    Default Settlers penalty

Settlers have a built in penalty of time not mentioned in Travian guidelines, the penalty of time is this; If settlers are sent to a village and in the meantime that village becomes settled, the settlers instead of aborting their journey, need to go to the settle village and then return to their village, so why, this time penalty:

As the saying goes: "time is money".

What else should happen, in your opinion? An instant return?

If you attack a village with normal troops, and the village is destroyed before your troops get there, they also continue and hit nothing before they go back home.. So it's not just a "settlers penalty". It's a feature of the game.. And though it's annoying if it happens to yourself, it is a part of the strategy of the game: you really have to think carefully before you send your first settlers and choose a village you have a realistic chance of getting - otherwise someone else might get there before you and you will have to wait for your settlers to return, while all the good croppers are taken..

The settlers stop at where they have advance to, turn around from there and go back, seems that would parallel a real life decision.

    Hi,

you cannot recall any troops after the initial 90 seconds, because after that time the troops are so far that they cannot be contacted, and told to return, anymore. Therefore they will travel all the way to wherever they are going - settlers are no exception to that.

    Regards,

How would they know whether the village is occupied before getting there? You can see everything on the map, but your settlers can't

Your settlers can't see that far.

There is an advantage about settlers not turning back before getting there. If you're a pure simmer who built no troops in 1st village, chances are that you will be under attacks throughout the day. When you send out your settlers, you would be able to know the time that they will come back home, should that village spot be taken.

However, if the settlers turn back after the spot gets taken before getting there, you won't know the time it returns. It can be in the middle of the night while you're sleeping. For typical simmers who try hard to hide their settlers, these kind of timing helps.

time is money indeed so why would you try to settle a village that has a chance to be settled by someone else? were you trying to settle in the grey area? or some really remote destination? because there is small chance that somebody would pick the exact same location. or did you tell somebody where you are gonna settle? some people dont have the gold club and dont have any means to find a good croppers

I would understand why someone would want to settle in a really remote destination, that is typical for normal simmers. Those are the risk you take for settling far away. But often the server long benefits of getting a good 15c will most often outweight the risks.
